This thriller involving sexual mutilation, political intrigue, and scandal is tastefully written. The author does an excellent job with no gratuitous descriptions or, even, murders. Force’s skill is also evident in the way that she develops the characters, from the murdered and mutilated senator to the detective and chief of staff who are trying to solve the case. The heroine, Sam, is especially complex and her secrets add depth to this mystery. Furthermore, the reignited romance between Detective Sam Holland and the senator’s chief of staff/best friend, Nick Cappuano, is lightning-quick and intense. Their relationship works perfectly in a mystery that is all about asking, ““who are you really?” For those looking for a romance, there’s plenty to go around, but this novel is definitely a thriller. The senator’s death and his enigmatic Kennedy-esque family are the stuff of edgy soap operas. This novel is “The O.C.” does D.C., and you just can’t get enough.
D.C. detective Sam Holland is recovering from a case gone wrong when she gets the chance salvage her reputation with the high profile case of the murder and mutilation of Senator John O’Connor. To complicate things more, the senator’s chief of staff is Nick Cappuano, a man Sam shared a night of passion with years ago and never heard from again. As Sam enlists Nick’s help, the sparks fly, but getting involved with a witness is definitely against metro police protocol. As Sam struggles to track down a killer, she can’t deny that she’s falling for Nick. But will her newfound romance blind her to the fact that she’s in very real danger?

Review: When Nick Cappuano finds his best friend, Senator John O'Connor, dead he is in for one heck of an investigation. The investigator assigned to the case is none other than Sam Holland a lady he had a one night stand with. Six years hasn't changed their attraction, but they have a case to solve.
The case leads these two to unearthing powerful secrets the Senator kept hidden. Nicks car ends up getting blown up in the course of them solving the case.
Will these two be able to turn their one night stand into something more or will the end of the case be the end to them also?
I really enjoyed this book as the plot was really interesting and it kept me guessing all the way through. The characters were great in that Sam was a tough girl, but also a caring woman when it came to Nick. They both interacted well with each other as the tension ramped up. The action in this book also will keep you on the tips of your toes, as it's so realistic. This was just a great book overall.
This is a suspense that never stops. Add it to your book list today.
Hidden secrets, family intrigue, and jealousy all combine with a background of romance to make Fatal Affair one of the best romantic suspense novels of the summer! I Joyfully Recommend it! Read the full review.
"I enjoyed pretty much everything about this book. The plot is thrilling and it's not easy to figure out who the murderer is. There are so many lies and it's hard to see through them. The two main characters Sam and Nick are just fantastic. They are authentic and I liked both of them right from the start. Sam is very passionate about her job and her family. Lately she had to deal with some serious events in her life but she's not one to give up. Nick is a very honest and hard-working man. On the one hand it's not so easy for him that Sam has a dangerous job but on the other hand he is willing to do everything to support her. There are a lot of lovely and funny scenes between them and I especially loved that Nick was man enough to apologize to Sam after he overreacted about her guarding him.
Sam and Nick are a great couple and I'm so happy that "Fatal Affair" is the first book in a series about them. I'm already excited for the next book and to learn more about them and the other characters like Sam's dad or her partner Freddie.
So all in all I think that this book is an outstanding romantic suspense novel and I can't wait to read more by Marie Force. I also love her contemporary romances because her stories and characters are always a true pleasure." Read the full review.
The characters help make the story but it's the plot building and suspense that help make this such an excellent murder mystery. This author excels at both as the plot thickens before the suspects start being murdered. All of our great ideas about the murderer have to be rethought.
Not many great books are complete without romance. Nick and Sam burn up the pages. Her ethical values don't stand much chance against his determination not to let her go again. This book starts out strong and keeps getting better. Marie Force is one of those authors that will be on my must read list in the future. Read the full review.
I loved this book! I read this book in nearly one sitting because from the first page, I couldn't wait to figure out who the killer was and whether Nick and Sam would be able to make it work.
This is the first of a series, and I can't wait to read the next one. I excited to see how Sam does with her promotion, whether or not Nick accepts one hell of an offer, and how they work both of those things out within their fledgling relationship. All that said, this was a funtabulous read, and I'm anxiously awaiting for Fatal Justice! Read the full review.
There will not be an instant of FATAL AFFAIR which you will want to skip, as clues are subtly given yet nothing is concrete until the final staggering revelation.
The Fatal series starts off with a story of political intrigue, an unexpected romance and plenty of mysteries to solve amid the escalating danger. Marie Force points readers in the direction of numerous suspects, and the road to discovering the identity of the brutal killer is filled with countless barricades to make the investigative journey extremely difficult and definitely compelling. Fatal Affair is a strong romantic suspense. I often have issues with this subgenre as either the romance or the suspense fails to convince. Fatal Affair neatly avoids this trap by giving Nick and Sam enough backstory to make the rapid development of their romance credible. The mystery is nicely done with plenty of suspects and red herrings. I still had a list of potential murderers right up until the last couple of chapters. Read the full review.

Now that the press has gotten wind of Sam’s steamy relationship with Senator Nick Cappuano, this beautiful police officer has been dodging flashbulbs instead of bullets. But when she’s called in on D.C.’s latest high profile homicide, the murder of polarizing Supreme Court nominee Julian Sinclair, Sam is once again put in danger, much to Nick’s dismay. When the investigation into the string of shootings reveals long-hidden secrets, the political fallout has the potential to devastate many careers. Sam digs in deeper despite the increasing violence, but will her investigation destroy her new relationship with Nick?
The second book in a series is in my opinion the most important one. After reading book #2 I normally decide if I want to continue with a series or not. So I was excited and also a bit nervous to read the second story in the Fatal series because I enjoyed the first book so much. But my anxiety was unnecessary for I enjoyed "Fatal Justice" a lot and I will definitely continue with this series because it's a great one.
I enjoyed that once again the story was thrilling and that the mystery was not so easy to solve. And I loved meeting Sam and Nick again. Both are likable and complex characters and I enjoyed learning more about them and their relationship. Especially Nick is a character I adore because I share his sentiments and like how he handles things. There were some scenes when I was suprised (even a bit shocked) by Sam but in the end Iwas excited to learn more about her because she's a fascinating woman.
In "Fatal Justice" Nick and Sam's relationship goes through hard times because their jobs and the press complicate things. At times I was frustrated with their quarrels but then I remembered that just weeks ago Sam and Nick were not a pair and that both had reasons to doubt if their relationship could work.
Marie Force has created characters that feel like real people and I love that not only her main characters are interesting and complex. All of the secondary characters make me excited for more and they also made me laugh a lot. The author's writing style is very engaging and makes following the story lines easy and very enjoyable. I'm already excited for #3 in the Fatal series because I want more of Nick and Sam.
Night Owl Reviews—Reviewer Top Pick"This is Ms. Force's first attempt in writing a series where the two main characters stay the same and I have to admit she's doing an excellent job. As she brings a new crime into the picture for Sam to solve she also allows Sam and Nick's relationship to gradually grow and form. She doesn't leave characters behind but molds them into something more giving the world she's creating more interest and diversity. Though the books can be read on their own, I like that they also interconnect and build on each other." 4.75/5, Reviewer Top Pick
"Marie Force is a superb suspense writer who mixes just the right blend of sex, humor and edge-of-the-seat action into a powerful book." Five hearts. Read the full review.
"Force pushes the boundaries by deftly using political issues like immigration to create an intricate mystery."
"I love this series. I’ve gotten so involved with everyone’s lives. Absolutely kept me glued to the page and I just couldn’t put it down."
Fatal Consequences was a delightful romantic suspense story, with an intricate plot and fully developed characters. I was a bit worried about reading the third book of a series and felt I could become lost in the storyline. However, I found that I truly wasn’t lost and that I became fully engaged in the lives of the protagonists in Fatal Consequences. I found the mystery that Marie Force wove in Fatal Consequences to be intriguing and rang with the right amount of realism. I liked the fact that even though Sam is a pretty strong, independent woman, she is able to lean on Nick without giving up any of her toughness. Nick was a sweetheart of a guy, and I didn’t expect anything less of Ms. Force as her heroes are almost always the ideal hero. I even liked the fact that he isn’t too perfect and that he does suffer from a sickness…anal retentiveness!

The fourth in Force's Fatal series is slim and potent, an exercise in watching a couple rebuild and recommit. Force chronicles their struggle in an honest and realistic way. Fans will appreciate the focus on the Sam and Nick's inner turmoil, a sea change from previous installments. There are also key breaks in cold cases, as well as intriguing supporting character developments.

When a new lead in a cold case arises, Sam throws herself into her work.
